Hiroshi Hashimoto, also based in Nagoya, as CONTAGIOUS ORGASM, belongs to the old Japanese avant-garde of industrial/noise and weirdness. For decades, SSSM served as a forum for himself and aesthetically related artists. Beyond his recent releases there, such as "A Series of Infected People," "The Chaotic March of Pagans," "Penetration Rate," and "A Sip of Water," his old connections led to releases on Ant-Zen & Raubbau, including "A Strange Illustrated Guide" (2023) and "Behind Closed Doors" (2025). And now, he presents "Black Box or A Detailed Wiring Diagram In Your Mind" (Psych.KG 601) on Matthias Horn's label. Unlike his compatriots, who are often fixated on harsh noise, his interest has always extended to the subconscious as a wormhole into the hyperreal. Thus, here too, noise blends with strings and surreal exotica. A seven-part suite consisting of: a forest of evil resides within our heart – when fog falls on the city lights – on a spring night, leaning against a telephone pole – I heard a low, sharp crack in my head – from the darkness a blood-soaked woman – under the same black sky, in the same sunlight – a detailed wiring diagram in your mind. Hashimoto superimposes paradoxes, collages contradictions. Fury clashes with gentleness, a daydreaming Enchanted Island ambience with urban claustrophobia. Alienated placelessness with theatrical-shamanic intervention. Distorted music with headless automation. Nostalgic melancholy and minor harmonies with bursting, detonating Fukushima trauma. Bloody chimidoro-e with Vivaldi strings and horror film shivers with orchestral pathos. A childlike singsong with an ominous drone, with a Japanese powwow. Hashimoto seems to draw from the black box of collective consciousness, in which the gruesome fantasies of the 19th century and the brutal experiences of the 20th are submerged, as if it contained tea leaves. And everything would simply be a matter of mixture and dosage.
